Working to find new alternatives that allow us to innovate in the materials we use and deepen our commitment to the environment. Gabriel Serber, Director of Social Commitment and Sustainable Development of Arcos Dorados, stands out . The future vision The plan for the elimination of single-use plastics that Arcos Dorados began to implement since 2018 has allowed it to reduce the consumption of more than 1,300 tons of said material. Since then, in all markets in which it operates, the company has stopped providing straws and, in 2019, began removing lids from hot and cold drinks served in restaurants.
Constantly moving to eliminate short-lived materials from Chinese Thailand Phone Number List operation, the company modified the design of McFlurry dessert spoons throughout the region, thus reducing plastic consumption per unit by 40%. In addition, it is progressively making progress in changing the packaging materials of several of its products to ones on 100% biodegradable cardboard, such as salad bowls, breakfast packaging and glasses, among others. To work on the different environmental problems that the planet faces today, Arcos Dorados has implemented a series of initiatives that allow it to generate a positive change in the environment: For more than 10 years, the firm has joined the global initiative “Earth Hour” in which all its restaurants and offices turn off the lights for 60 minutes.
In Mexico through the “Ahorrar es Cool” program, they aim to reduce the consumption of drinking water, minimize its waste and achieve the reuse of condensed water, generated by restaurant air conditioners; The water obtained is used to irrigate the gardens, wash the facades and roads of the AutoMac. It should be noted that more than 275 thousand liters of water have been saved. All restaurants have a time-slot on and off system, which reduces energy consumption. Oil is one of the main pollutants of the environment, and it is estimated that 1 liter of frying oil poured into pipes can contaminate 1,000 liters of water. The oil already used in the kitchens of McDonald's restaurants is collected periodically by certified suppliers, and after processing it is marketed; 1 million liters of oil are recycled each year to market it as biodiesel in industrial boilers. Arcos Dorados suppliers have an animal welfare audit and are sought to be local suppliers; In Mexico, 80% of all suppliers are Mexican and have animal welfare certification.
